In this video I veneer birch plywood with beautiful English elm constructional veneer. This is for a large bespoke circular coffee table. I veneered both sides to prevent the top from warping and I applied the glue with a Pizzi glue spreader. I used Tesa red veneer tape to stick the veneers together and I clamped the veneer down with the BagPress. Full build video: ua-cam.com/video/FDWwpYEks5w/...

450 Year Old Burr Oak And Ebony Coffee Table!
Переглядів 5 тис.9 місяців тому
Making A Rare Wood Luxury Coffee Table In this video I make a custom coffee table for a beautiful, modern London townhouse. The tabletop is constructed from 450 year old burr oak from Sutherland in Scotland and has African black ebony inlay banding around all the edges. The base is solid ash with a hand carved textured surface that has been ebonised black with Rubio Monocoat intense black. This...
Excellent work. Where can that type of banding be purchased?
Hi Michael, I made the banding myself. I have a few videos on my channel on how to do it!
As set up instructions go your about eighty percent correct but not 100. Far to many do not adjust the guides properly and you CAN overtension a blade. Your advice on adjusting the rear guides in particular is only partially correct and will not ensure both guides take the cutting load evenly. All to often this leads to burning the face of the lower or upper guide and twisting the blade in the cut. The other thing everyone neglects to mention is feed speed regulation. Feeding to fast clogs the gullets and heat build up causes premature dulling of the teeth. The exact position for tracking depends on how much crowning their is on the wheel rubber and the width of the blade. Solid blade guides of brass work far better than ball bearings. Blade slap and vibration is the kiss of death to smooth cutting and blade life. I was taught the basics of bandsaw set up the same as you at the London College of Furniture but it took 35 years in the trade to learn all the real tricks. Far to many bandsaws are inferior in quality and alignment. If the blades aren't welded accurately they will not track properly. If there is not enough crown in the wheel's same problem.
Great job brah! Really well done. Subbed.
No insulation?? Prepare to have a damp space.
Just gone to take a look at this on the website and its no longer available. gutted
Bravo! Beautiful work.
Love this, the leg profile blending into top is first class!!!
Cheers Jack! I appreciate that!
You really are incredibly talented! Just remember, if you’re really good at doing something, don’t give it away.
ahah cheers mate!
Fantastic work once again. Turning those posts must be difficult getting them all similar. Cheers
Hi John, thanks for the support. Yes that was the hardest part, but I liked the challenge.
Great work!
Thank you! 🙏
Superb. Watch with my wife. I didn't count how many times she said wow but it's more than she has given me in 20 years.
Ahaha thanks mate! Appreciate that!
Amazing work as always Sean and copy turning isn't easy so well done on getting the legs perfect
Thank you Dave! Yes that was a challenge, but a measure template really helps! Thanks for watching mate.
Awesome, not a lot else to explain.
Hello fellow lovers of woodworking. Am a long time admirer of Sean's wood working style especially the vid where he did the inlay bandings. I have a friend who has started a new channel. Please support him, thank you all youtube.com/@onlythebestmelodies?si=a5BoKhAWBPI3zEGV
Goes to website to find super accurate square. Search square. 480 results with the square in question nowhere in sight. ....the one in my garage will have to do.
Hi Sean, I'm a novice woodturner of 67 returning to a skill I first learnt 53 years ago in school. In between I was a professional photographer with skills in multiple line film exposures, then a salesman for specialist reprographic materials until 1984/5 when the Mac started the DTP revolution. Been an IT guy with graphics knowledge ever since, and I see in you that degree of focus that took me through a whole career of attention to detail which got me client after client. Your 'simple' point and pencil-line method of aligning the grain in the Padauk so that the specular reflection didn't deviate was a master class in itself. This is the first of your video's I've seen and I'll be watching many more I'm sure.
Thank you so much John! I really appreciate it, that’s very kind. Hopefully my videos have improved since that one, hope you enjoy and welcome to the channel!
@@SeanEvelegh Hi Sean, thanks for replying. Just to expand on what I thought was good in your video's was your attention to getting the cuts 'right' in the first place to the extent that you didn't have to spend a lot of time sanding each piece, it was just a very small amount on one edge. That approach saves so much time and effort when trying to rectify any fitting issues later. It also allows any imperfections to be caught early or immediately so the fault doesn't 'cascade'. A very solid approach, and I'm looking forward to watching your Kumiko tutorial.
I know sjoberg is quality stuff but this unit seems more like ikea than sjoberg, doesn’t seem like it’ll go the distance. I wish you the best of luck with it, but it seems a bit disappointing.
Background music is so annoying...never heard of this brand of scroll saw.
Genius work, but please find a method to keep those talented digits away from that blade.
Love the Kumiko design. I've been adding some smaller pieces to some of my own work. Where/how did you come up with your design?
Thsnks very good video
Hi Sean, Love your videos. I just have a question ,wonder if you have come across this problem. Seen as your workshop is built out of bricks and you are in the UK, it would be a similar situation to mine, I'm from Ireland and my shed is build of cinder blocks. My question is do you ever have any problems with dampness or high humidity in your workshop and how did you deal with it? I have major problems with mine, i have a humidity gauge and its constantly around 90% unless i open all windows and doors which it only comes down to 75% when its a sunny day. Thanks.
Hi Caleb, Thankfully it doesn't effect us to much. I do get very high humidity swell, but I wax my machines often so they don't get rusty and in the winter I don't keep glue or finishes in the workshop overnight. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks for the response. Yeah I have to bring in my big bottles of glue and finishes too. Thanks again and look forward to more videos, your a talented maker 👍👍👍
Oh wow. Very nice.
Thank you!
Very cool looks great
Thank you Jim
Great idea, they look like part of the bench. Cheers.
Thanks John. I agree it fits in very well and is a great addition
Nice storage system. I've been looking at a Sjoberg for potentially replacing my existing homemade workbench down the road. Love that clamp wall!
Hey Erik! Thanks a lot. Honestly I really recommend then, they are very well build and has done everything I've wanted a bench to do.
As a woodworker why didn't you build your own drawers?
If he made drawers for the bench they would be 1000% better than the flat pack rest assured. Sometimes time constraints get the better of you.
Hey, yep John is right. I would loose money if I spent the time to make it myself. In time, it would have taken me a lot longer to make it than buy it.
Exactly John. I'd probably waste to much time making unnecessary dovetail drawers ahaha
@@SeanEvelegh Hooo, I see that's why you have a woodworking channel, yep that would make sense.
I always enjoy your videos. Would love to see them more often and with more substantive content.
Hi Brenda, Thank you, it means a lot you like my content. I will be uploading some longer build videos very soon!
Gorgeous & clean way too , love hand tools.😊
Thank you! Yeah they're the best right!
👍💓!!
Beautiful
Currently speedrunning youtube because only one knifemaker uses Carnuba on his blades.
Nice work, and without a steady rest
What kind of glue do you use?
i need this. from where?
Do you want some wall to go with those clamps😂
Just a clone of the Canadian Excalibur
Fair play, literally living my dream, in the process of building my first workshop, I can’t wait to be able to create projects at home in my own space.
Does the fence come on and off quickley , and sliding table lock solid for ripping with the table saw ?
Sean, when you cut your tails after removing the tape, are you cutting right to the edge of the tape and are you chiseling them clean afterward? I ask because your joints are super tight.
Hi Scott, I aim to get the joint straight from the saw so yes I cut right on the edge. Sometimes the cut might not be perfect and you have to tweak the wall with a chisel. But its good practice and faster if you can get the joint direct from the saw.
Massive work! Thank you for these great videos. Can I use some clips of one of your video for educational use on my website? I've sent you details on facebook. Looking for your reply!
How much for a 4x8 sheet?
Great video, I am catching on by making mistake first. This will help others bypass that step. I focus so much now on the base lines because as you say "the angle of the tails are not important, as long as they are strait". And once the base line has been violated, it is game over. Just for fun, I recommend that people try free handing dove tails without guide lines, it is quite liberating.
Mine works too. I used woodprix plans and made it without any problems.
Well done! But the music🙉
I don’t see how it comes close to incra ls positioner in.. any way!
den anleimer hätte ich anders gehandhabt sonst super 👍
